History

The Canberra Water Polo Academy (CWPA) was officially established in 2010. The program had grown from a junior development squad in 2008 which was then an ACT Water Polo Incorporated program. The CWPA wanted to model itself after other high performance programs operating in other states. These would include NSWIS, VIS, WAIS and QAS, all of which are intensive state training programs that operate independently from both state and national organizations, however keeping a side-by-side relationship with them. CWPA felt it was necessary to try to replicate this in ACT to gain the best results possible for everyone involved. The Academy now has three separate training programs with 7 coaches and over 100 athletes.

The CWPA programs consist of;

    • Junior Dolphins (JD) 8 -14 years
  • Talent Development Squad (TDS) 13 – 18 years
  • TDS Elite (Elite) 16 – 28 years
