We have had a number of athletes selected in Australian squads over the past month, with these athletes invited to attend camps over the next couple of weeks.
Firstly we had Jackson Holdway and Nick Taylor invited to attend the Australian born 2000 men’s camp last week. The boys trained with the best 20 U16 athletes from around Australia for a week at the AIS. The boys were exposed to high volume with each day consisting of two 3-hour sessions in the water as well as team meetings, recovery sessions and educational sessions. A squad of 13 athletes will be selected to attend the U18s and U20s tournaments at Pan Pacs. Well done Jackson and Nick!
Next week Lily Hawthorn and Siani Swarbrick will attend the born 2000 women’s camp at the AIS. The girls will train with 40 athletes from around Australia in the born 2000/01 age groups. The girls have been preparing for a long camp and will have the same access to recovery and educational sessions as the boys. From this camp, 2 teams of 12 will be selected to again attend the Pan Pacs tournament playing the U18s and U20s competitions. Good Luck Lily and Siani!
Finally JB Spahr has been selected to attend Water Polo Australia’s newest event the Future Olympians: Target Tokyo camp. The camp is designed to get the best male and female athletes from outside the senior national teams together to help with their development and assist in preparing athletes to hopefully one-day play at the Olympics. The camp will be held at the AIS from 2-8 May 2016. There will be opportunities for local athletes to attend games towards the end of the week, these sessions and times will be sent out closer to the date. Good luck to JB!
As special congratulations to the ACT U14 Boys and Girls teams who recently represented the ACT at the National Championships. Both teams made it through to the plate final (9/10th position) with the girls defeating Sydney University 6-3 in the final. The boys unfortunately went down in their final game 13-8 to Adelaide. Well done to athletes, coaches and managers on what are fantastic results!
